Fashion trail - from Berlin's Ku'damm to KaDeWe
There is a reason Berlin is considered the most modern city in Europe. Be sure to visit the East Side Gallery, which is the world’s largest gallery located outdoors, and Berlin’s Ku’damm Boulevard. The German shopping avenue Ku’damm otherwise known as Kurfürstendamm, is located in the western part of Berlin and was established in 1886 on the initiative of Otto von Bismark. It’s a place of department stores, boutiques and restaurants, with Berlin’s KaDeWe – one of the largest department stores in Europe – playing first fiddle.
Founded in 1907 KaDeWe – also called row Harrods – for many Germans is a symbol of Berlin’s rebirth. This conservative 8-story building has about 1,800 global brands and 60,000. m2. The most exclusive floor includes the first floor with glassed-in lounges of major designers such as Gucci and Louis Vouitton. The rest of the floor measuring 300m2 is developed for the “Beauty Department”, which is the stands of popular cosmetic brands.
As you wander through the Berlin department store, you may notice a thematic division of floors, where on the second floor you’ll find stores for men’s clothing and accessories, while on the second you’ll peruse women’s collections. The third floor is definitely a zone of relaxation, which you can take in SPA. The celebration of the journey at KaDeWe is definitely the sixth floor, which will set you in a virtuosity of flavors. This is where you’ll find luxury delicatessens, where you can get the most coveted wines and cheeses, a delicacy of the French. It’s worth the temptation, taste and wander further down the streets of Berlin.
Stop Gallery Lafayette
From Berlin to Paris is only a doorway away… from Berlin’s Galleria Lafayette. Designed by Jean Nouvel, the gallery is located in the center of Berlin. This glazed architecture with a double façade, was awarded the Pritzker Prize in 2008, and in its services offers an extraordinary journey through the “corners” of Paris. In this modern department store, separated by more than a thousand kilometers from the beleaguered Paris, we can interact “alone” with French fashion, elegance and art.
Among the innovative designs of Berlin’s Lafayette Gallery is an installation – a container mounted above the main entrance with plants growing parallel to the street that defy the force of gravity. At Berlin’s Lafayette you’ll find something for the soul and body – to soothe the former, peruse the library to encounter French culture and the works of prominent writers. The smell of old books, leather covers and inspiring quotes. “True travelers are only those who set out to set out” read Baudelaire’s words…. Is your suitcase already packed?
