Beautician or cosmetologist?
A common problem is the distinction between beautician and cosmetologist. It is a mistake to put both competitions on the same scale. The difference lies primarily in the method of training, as well as the range of competencies. According to Polish education, a beautician is a person who has completed a two-year technical school, obtaining the title of technician of cosmetic services, or has been educated in a system of private courses in the field of care and procedures of particular treatments. A cosmetologist, on the other hand, is a person who has a higher education – a minimum of a three-year bachelor’s degree. In the further course of his education, he can complete his degree with a master’s degree in cosmetology, as well as begin his academic career by obtaining further degrees.
The differences in competence are also significant. In the course of their training, cosmetologists touch on issues in the health sciences, such as anatomy, physiology, histology, biology, chemistry and many others. This gives graduates of this field a broader view of skin problems and its specialized care. However, this does not mean that the beauty world recognizes that a beautician is someone of lesser importance. On the contrary! Only harmonious and synergistic work allows you to achieve the desired goal, which is a beautiful and well-groomed body, and thus well-being.
Aesthetic medicine
The beauty world: who else is guarding our beauty? Another person we may encounter on our way to our desired appearance is an aesthetic doctor. As the name suggests, it is a person after medical studies, a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine or Medicine and Dentistry of the Medical University.
In fact, there are no regulations in our country that specify what specializations would entitle one to provide services from this branch. Any person with an active professional license can reach for a syringe of botulinum toxin and administer it to a patient. That is why it is so important for recipients of these services to know the qualifications of the doctor to whom they will go. Fewer and fewer doctors are upgrading their qualifications with only one-day courses, which are more likely to be viewed as supplementing and expanding their knowledge and skills.
The primary avenue of training for aesthetic physicians in our country is post-graduate studies, giving the title of certified aesthetic physician. In the course of such studies, one obtains a broad view of all the treatments that modern aesthetic medicine offers, as well as the ability to perform combined treatment, i.e. combining procedures to achieve the best possible treatment effect. It is a very rapidly growing branch of medicine that aims to improve mental well-being and external appearance among a healthy population. Newer and newer methods give the doctor the opportunity to cope with the growing demands of patients.
With a visit to a plastic surgeon
However, it happens that aesthetic medicine spreads its hands and the only way to achieve the desired change is to visit a plastic surgeon. Who is the person behind such a title? He is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine who chose plastic surgery as his target specialty. It’s not easy to get one – it’s made by the best of the best. The road is long and strewn with hard work, and fortunately in our country this specialty is beginning to emerge from the shadow of “taboo” and is becoming increasingly popular.
It is worth remembering that these are not patients’ whims, but problems that cannot be solved by half-measures, which turn out to be treatments from aesthetic medicine or cosmetology. In the case of extensive excess skin after pregnancy or drastic weight loss, we cannot fool ourselves into thinking that this can be corrected other than surgically. Identically, the case is shaped in the case of a considerable excess of fatty tissue or at least bust plastic surgery – a visit to a plastic surgeon will be necessary.
The way of beauty
Let’s remember that everything is for people! When we use common sense and moderation, we will enjoy good health and a beautiful appearance for years to come. Let’s always reach for treatments that are as minimally invasive as possible, which, above all, will not change our facial features or make us someone else. The most beautiful results are obtained in patients who rationally use the benefits of the colorful world of beauty, rich in various treatments.
I always tell my patients that the elixir of youth is drowned in systematic, well-chosen, home and daily care supported by regular visits to beauty and cosmetology offices. It will then be easier for the aesthetic practitioner to add that “icing on the cake” and correct certain deficiencies or stop or even reverse time when its signs are not so far advanced. However, when we wake up too late or our problem is more complex, then the cooperation of all specialties will guarantee a return to beauty and self-confidence. It is worth fighting for, because our well-being, is the best gift we can do for ourselves!
