The terrace and balcony are some of the most important parts of any home. Next to the kitchen, living room or bathroom, this is where we spend the most time. At the same time, these are some of the most challenging places in any home. They are exposed to extreme weather conditions – from hot weather to torrential downpours. Also, the constant moving of patio furniture, grills or pots makes it deteriorate several times faster. Arranging such a place, which will remain in constant condition for years, is therefore almost an achievement. What do such spaces look like to a woman who not only drinks coffee on them, but also exercises, celebrates and even cooks. What does Eve Wachowicz’s terrace look like?

Beautiful terraces, but are they practical?
The neighborhood’s diversity of plants, flowers and trees is what Ewa Wachowicz values most. That’s why her home couldn’t lack for multiple terraces. She also makes no secret of the fact that the terrace, for her, is a place to meet and eat together. She herself is a very practical and perfectly organized person, so repeatedly redecorating the same places did not meet her expectations.
“For me, it is important that the terrace is friendly to the touch. At home, I usually go barefoot, because these are natural materials and I love to feel the contact with nature. I love to walk barefoot on the grass and I also like to walk on the terrace in this way.” Choosing decking boards, is a problem over which not one of us has spent hours searching the Internet for a solution.
Real wood is the best!
Real wood is the best! – many would say. However, this natural material requires a tremendous commitment on the part of the householder. It requires annual oiling and regular care to protect it, and yet, replacement of the wood must occur much sooner, due to its worn state. “I had wood on the terrace. It was Polish Larch and it was great! Until the first moment of oiling… It was so much work to clean up all the furniture and decorations from the terrace that afterwards no one wanted to move the pots anymore!” – tells Ewa Wachowicz, who has the above story. The frequency of the required oiling of the wood was therefore not satisfactory to her and her family. After the first time, wood impregnation went into oblivion.
Intensity of use of the terrace and its durability
When there’s a lot going on in a terrace, it’s best to opt for composite decking. This is a type of board that looks like wood, but is much more durable in composition. Moreover, it does not require waterproofing or painting. Composite planks are also subjected to a brushing process that gives them anti-slip properties, making them safe to use.
“Before I decided on it, I tested myself a composite board from a Polish manufacturer in another garden a nice couple of years ago. I made a small terrace by the guest house, in the garden, next to the sauna, to see how the composite board works. How she is aging, how she is enduring. It passed the test! When renovating the house, the terraces, when we removed the wood, the decision was just for composite decking, which resembled wood in color and texture. The composite board I chose is 50 percent natural material, as it is made from recycled wood fibers.”
Why composite decking
ProDeck’s composite decking is one of the most popular boards for patios and balconies. Their popularity is determined not only by their attractive design, but also by their high resistance to a range of adverse external factors. Prodeck has been awarded the 2022 Construction Brand of the Year award. Composite fence boards are offered in several different colors. In addition, it is possible to match them in color, which avoids the impression of chaos and inconsistency in the arrangement.
