Talent sucked from mother’s milk

Christina Applegate was born 53 years ago in Los Angeles to a family of musicians. Her mother was a singer, and her father was a music producer and record label owner. They both quietly hoped that their daughter would also follow in their footsteps. And although she has a strong voice that has been heard more than once in various productions, she much preferred acting. She started her career very early. When she was just a year old, she starred alongside her mother in the TV series “Days of Our Lives,” and then, as less than four years old, appeared in a baby bottle commercial.

Juvenile actress

Her career gained momentum very quickly. At the age of ten, she starred in as many as two productions: the horror film “Jaws of Satan” and the musical film “Batlemania,” where she played one of the leading roles. Just two years later, she could be seen in the role of the youthful Grace Kelly in the series of the same name telling the story of the Princess of Monaco. After that she was already playing regularly, and every year you could see another series with her participation. In 1987, she even received the prestigious Young Artist Award statuette, the most important film award given to young artists.

The World According to the Bundies

Along with the award came arguably her most famous role – Kelly Bundy. In the series, which was filmed for 10 years, she played the not-so-smart and extremely promiscuous daughter of Al and Peggy Bunch. Thanks to him, she has already become recognized not only in the States, but all over the world. Via 11 seasons viewers were able to watch how just 16-year-old Christina transformed from a rebellious teenager into a beautiful woman. Viewers could see her extraordinary acting talent. She found herself perfectly especially in comedy productions, which became her trademark. She starred in, among others. “Don’t tell Mom that Nanny is dead.” or “Martians attack”.. And although these were not top-notch productions, her roles have gone down in history, and she has already earned a permanent place in Hollywood. She also made a guest appearance in the TV series “Friends,” for which she won an Emmy award.

Most beautiful

Viewers and fans appreciated not only the talent, but also the beauty. In 1999, People magazine named her one of the 50 most beautiful women in the world. At the time, she was among the big names such as Michelle Pfeiffer and Julia Roberts. She has also appeared on the covers of all the major magazines – Cosmopolitan, Women’s Health, People and Rolling Stone. It also culminated in a cover story in the men’s magazine“”Maxim,”” which invited only the most important women in the industry. Although it would seem that this petite actress(she measures just 165 cm) would not be able to focus the attention of viewers, nothing could be further from the truth. She also proved it by performing in the vocal and dance group The Pussycat Dolls.

The Pussycat Dolls

While today most people probably associate the band with Nicole Scherzinger or Melody Thornton, few people know that it was founded by Christina Applegate in her garage. In 1995, she and choreographer Robin Antin decided to do something more creative, and the team was born. Initially, the group consisted of several girls who stood out for their great talent in dancing and singing. This quickly got them engaged at the exclusive Viper Room club located on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California. The club was visited by all important personalities: Johnny Depp, Jennifer Aniston or Sean Penn. When the band signed its first record label deal in 2003, Christina settled into the shadows and focused on her acting career.

Into the deep water

As her popularity grew, she also tried to secure a role in the most famous melodrama about love – “Titanic.” However, the leading role was cleaned from under her nose by Kate Winslet. However, there’s no such thing as a bad thing… Later that year, she won the lead role in the series “Her Whole World,” which, along with “The World According to the Bundies,” became her trademark. It also brought her recognition from both fans and critics. She received a People’s Choice Award for it, as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series or Musical. In total, she had as many as four Golden Globes nominations: twice for the series “Who is Samantha?” and for her role as Jen Harding in the famous Netflix series “You’re Already Dead.”

Double married

Unfortunately, a successful career was not matched by a personal life. She has been linked to various well-known names over the years, including Brad Pitt. However, it wasn’t until 1998 that her heart beat harder for American actor Johnathon Schaech. Although it seemed to everyone that they were madly in love with each other, just four years after their marriage they officially announced their separation. A year after her divorce, she met Martyn LeNoble, whom she married in 2013. Two years earlier, their only child was born – daughter Sadie Grace.

Family idyll

The birth of a daughter was a dream come true for Christina Applegate. She said more than once in interviews that this was a whole new level of love that completely filled her: “I love my child… more than I ever knew was possible.” It is for her to completely rearrange her life focusing primarily on her role as a mother. Shortly after giving birth, she gave an interview to People magazine, in which she said: “For the first time, I felt my heart literally open up and sort of wrap around her. I am more and more in love with her every minute of the day.”

“I was healed by my daughter.”

Sadie Grace’s daughter was also a big surprise for the actress. Just three years before giving birth, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and as a result had to undergo a double mastectomy. Christina Applegate has spoken openly about her battle with cancer to support women who are also facing it. That’s how the Right Action for Women foundation was created, which funds women who can’t afford treatment. Christina has also decided to become an ambassador for Lee National Denim Day, a fundraiser to support breast cancer research. Therefore, the arrival of the baby came as a shock to her and her husband: “Now I’m a mom. My daughter has healed me in many ways. She has just made my life so much better. It opened my whole soul.”

Another diagnosis

However, this was not the end of her health problems. Many fans of the actress have recently watched Christina’s health deteriorate considerably: she has gained more than 20 pounds and has begun to move around with a cane. As a result, the final season of the series “Already Dead” has also been postponed. Everyone wondered if it would be built at all. In August 2021, the actress officially confirmed for the first time that she suffers from multiple sclerosis. She also thanked the entire crew of the series for showing great forbearance during the filming of season 3. The end of the series also coincided with a nomination for another award in her career – Screen Actors Guild. The famous gala takes place on the night of February 26-27, and that’s when Christina Applegate’s acting career will come to a symbolic end. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, she said: “Right now I can’t imagine getting up at 5 a.m. and spending 12-14 hours on set. This is probably my last awards gala as an actress. So it’s kind of a big deal.”

Is this the end of his career?

Although Applegate has already announced the end of her acting career, she does not intend to retire completely from the film industry. She wants to go into production, which she also has experience in. She has co-produced a number of series, including “Already Dead.” For her achievements, she was honored in November 2022 with a star in the famous Avenue of Stars in Hollywood. During the event she was accompanied by her loved ones and friends from the film set: Katey Sagal (“The World According to the Bundys”) or Linda Cardellini (“You’re Already Dead”). During the speech, she once again thanked her daughter for being everything to her.

An extraordinary talent

And although today Christina Applegate no longer resembles in any way the teenage blonde we know from the popular series starring her, one still can’t help but admire her immense talent and uncommon beauty. No wonder fans are still hoping to see her on the TV screen, and not just as a producer, but more importantly as the wonderful actress that she is.
