Ewelina Juzwin is a Polish woman who moved to Glasgow many years ago – at first only for a summer job, but she liked it here so much that she stayed in the Islands for a longer period of time. Before she knew it, eight years had passed since she lived here. It was also here that she studied animation and found a quiet job as a graphic designer. However, the daily routine was interrupted by a pandemic. And it was this time that proved to be quite important in Ewelina’s future career. And it all started with a certain order… straight from Hollywood!

Every story has a beginning…

Do you know how it is when quite trivial – seemingly – decisions or actions cause an avalanche of unexpected events? Just like in a Hitchcock movie and in this story, let’s hang a shotgun on the wall and wait – it will go off for sure!

Here we are in 2019 and a series of dramatic events. COVID, a pandemic, and what follows is a lockdown that cuts us off from being able to leave the house and thus perform most of our duties. This also meets Evelina, who is trying to find herself some new activities. Not only to make money, but also to occupy their hands with something – one, because handwork quiets the heavy lockdown atmosphere, and two, to simply kill boredom. As it happens, her partner’s mother also has a little more time – so she gets down to housekeeping. From the bottom of a drawer he pulls out completely forgotten jewelry-making items. Is there anyone she could bestow them on? Ewelina will surely be happy! And indeed. Colorful polymer clay, a material that hardens when exposed to heat, and a variety of jewelry clasps, chains and glittering beads offer a wealth of possibilities for creative projects.

The long winter pandemic evenings are perfect for making something fun out of it. Ewelina begins to experiment with jewelry making and it turns out that her small hobby turns into quite a production. Earrings – because these are the ones she creates most readily – are gifted to really everyone. She also makes some for herself – they are for a special occasion: a retro party. Round, hanging earrings, quite simple in form, white – they resemble those that girls wore in the 1970s. For pop art styling. They go with everything, they are classic, a little retro, but they have that something that draws the eye, and also… well, that’s right….

THIS order, that is, we are going to Hollywood!

One day, Evelina decides not to keep her wares in a drawer any longer. The pandemic is prolonged, production is increasing, and something must be done with the stocks. So he sets up a small store on Etsy, which he is slowly expanding. However, one of the special orders for two pairs of white Retro Classics, as Ewelina called her somewhat old-school earrings, comes as a unique surprise – the recipient’s address is Warner Bros, Hollywood. Done, packed, shipped.

Time passes…

Some time later, the world goes crazy! The long-awaited movie is released on the screens. Everyone dresses in pink, dyes their hair blonde, and in city centers you can be photographed in special arranged stands – boxes for the doll … well, that Barbie, after all! “Barbie” on the screens is something – millions of tickets sold and a huge box office success. Ewelina also goes to the cinema and one day scrolls Instagram in search of movie photos. “Aaaaaaa! You have to go out, immediately! You have to see it!” – she shouts to her, it must be admitted, somewhat terrified by the whole situation, and taking a bath, partner. “Ewelina, what happened! Are you okay!” – tries to extract an answer from the exasperated girl. “Those are my earrings! They are worn by Margot Robbie! Can you imagine!”. With trembling hands, Ewelina tries to freeze the Instagram reels, which clearly show the impressive earrings in the ears of the Hollywood star playing the leading role of Barbie. To make sure they are definitely them – her Retro Classics, Ewelina runs to check the name of the recipient of the package. Wow! – everything checks out, it’s a Hollywood costume designer!

To be continued…

If it weren’t for the film, it’s likely that the earring production story would have been just another side job. In the meantime, more and more clients began to apply to Ewelina – after all, who doesn’t want to look like Margot right now? Today, some time after the film’s release, Isle of Clay, Ewelina’s jewelry brand, offers the star-studded Retro Classics not only in white, but in almost every color of the rainbow. Although they are perhaps the most popular in terms of sales, Ewelina is most excited about creating other designs – especially those she hand-paints. In the ears they look really charming. The artist plans to open a small studio where she could develop her creative passions. After all, Ewelina is a true Renaissance woman who not only makes jewelry, but also draws, clays and knits. Who knows, perhaps the first star-studded production will result in other interesting film collaborations in the future. Let’s keep our fingers firmly crossed! In Ewelina’s store it is worth looking not only for Barbie lookup, but also for other unusual earrings: https://www.instagram.com/isleofclay
